Oregon Ducks to be Grand Marshal of Portland Rose Parade
The Portland Rose Festival invited the Oregon Ducks football team to serve as Grand Marshal for the 2011 Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade on June 11. Acknowledging the importance of the University of Oregon and the team’s achievement the last couple of years, Sue Bunday, 2011 Portland Rose Festival Foundation president, presented UO President Richard Lariviere and the Oregon Duck mascot with bouquets of roses at an announcement event on campus.
“To serve as the Grand Marshal of an event with so much Oregon history is a great way to celebrate the team and entire university,” said Lariviere.
Athletics Director Rob Mullens and Portland Rose Festival Foundation CEO Jeff Curtis also spoke at the announcement, which was attended by members of the football team who competed in the BCS National Championship game in January.
Tickets for a special Oregon Duck section of parade seats in camera view just outside Veterans Memorial Coliseum are on sale now through RoseFestival.org using the special promo code QUACK. UO fans can also show their colors by walking down the 4.2-mile route as participants in the Regence Grand Floral Walk, which steps off just ahead of the parade at 9:30 a.m.
“We expect the Ducks to hear fans yelling ‘O’ for the entire 4.2-mile trip,” Bunday said.
