OPB to air student documentaries

Oregon Public Broadcasting's "Oregon Lens" will showcase documentaries from four School of Journalism and Communication students Thursday evening from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. and rebroadcast on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m.

The following students produced the films under the direction of faculty members Jon Palfreman and Dan Miller: Chris Nguyen , Jeremy Cabalona , Lea Artz , Josh Clark, and Casey Marks Fife.

Clarks’ film, “Outside the Wire,” recounts experiences of local photojournalists, Dan Morrison and Cali Bagby, who were embedded with Marines in Afghanistan.

Nguyen’s film, “Arena of Gamers” provides viewers an inside look at competitive video game players.

Meanwhile, “Call of the Bells,” by Cabalona, chronicles a subject studying the ancient Indian art of Bharatanatyam.

And student Casey Marks Fife served as the executive producer of “A Life Against Death: The Work of Sister Helen Prejean.” The short documentary discusses Prejean’s work with the University of Oregon and the Oregon State Penitentiary.
