Geography professor elected to Academia Europaea
Geography Professor Alexander B. Murphy has been elected to membership in the prestigious Academia Europaea.
Most of its 2,000-plus members are European scientists and scholars, with leading experts in the physical sciences and technology, biological sciences and medicine, mathematics, the letters and humanities, social and cognitive sciences, economics and the law.
The closest equivalent to Academia Europaea in the United States is the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Murphy, who holds the James F. and Shirley K. Rippey Chair in Liberal Arts and Sciences, specializes in political, cultural, and environmental geography, with regional emphases in Europe and the Middle East. He has been a faculty member at the University of Oregon since 1987.
