Eaton wins Olympic gold

The greatest athlete in the world is a Duck.

University of Oregon graduate Ashton Eaton completed a banner year in 2012 by winning the gold medal in the decathlon at the London Olympics. The gold-medal-winning decathlete has long carried the informal title of the world's greatest athlete.

Eaton, who owns a bachelor's degree in psychology from the UO, won the 2010 Bowerman Award, track and field's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. He capped his 2010 senior season at the UO by becoming the first person ever to capture three straight NCAA decathlon titles.

Before the Olympics, he set a world record in the decathlon at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, while running the fastest 100 meters ever recorded in the decathlon and also setting a world record for the long jump in the event.
