Ducks take on Sun Devils; law profs to be honored

Faculty spotlight
A pair of professors from the UO School of Law will be honored at Thursday's game.
In addition to heading the Master in Laws program at the University of Oregon’s School of Law, Svitlana Kravchenko focuses her work on environmental law. She is a trailblazer in environmental law in Eastern Europe. In 2011, the World Conservation Union Academy of Environmental Law awarded her the Senior Scholar Award.
Before coming to Oregon she taught environmental law for 25 years at Lviv National University, Ukraine. She helped create the first national park in Ukraine and, in 1994 she founded Ukraine’s first public interest environmental law firm, which she continues to lead.
John Bonine holds the B.B. Kliks Endowed Chair in Law at the UO, where he has been teaching for 34 years.
Bonine is one of the pioneers of environmental law in the United States. In the 1970s, he worked in the U.S. Senate andthe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 1972 through 1977.
In 1978, he co-founded the world’s first environmental law clinic at the University of Oregon. He co-founded the internationally renowned Public Interest Environmental Law Conferences in 1983, which have grown to attract more than 2,000 participants annually. In 2011, Bonine was honored with the Wayne Westling Award for University Leadership and Service.
A Devilish history
Arizona State leads the all-time series with Oregon 16-15 in a series that dates back to the first meeting in 1966. The Ducks have won the previous six meetings, including the last two at Autzen Stadium. ASU and Oregon are tied at eight wins apiece in Eugene. Arizona State's last win over the Ducks game in 2004, a 28-13 win in Eugene.
GameDay returns
ESPN College GameDay will produce its weekly college football preview show from the University of Oregon's Memorial Quad this week, marking the sixth appearance in Eugene by the show, which features Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Erin Andrews and David Pollack.
Saturday morning's three-hour production goes on the air at 6 a.m. PT for the first hour on ESPNU, and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. PT on ESPN.
UO students, faculty, staff and the community are encouraged to attend the live broadcast. The area in primary view for the television audience will open at 1 a.m. and is expected to be filled to capacity before the broadcast begins at 6 a.m. Learn important details about attendance.

James honored
Running back LaMichael James has been named Pac-12 player of the week on offense for the second time this season, conference officials announced this week.
James, a junior from Texarkana, Texas, ran 30 times for 239 yards and a touchdown in the Ducks' 43-15 victory over Cal, posting his third consecutive 200-yard rushing effort and sixth of his career. James became the first FBS player with three straight 200-yard games since Tulane's Matt Forte in 2007 and the first Pac-12 player to accomplish the feat since USC's Marcus Allen in 1981.
