Basketball season tips off Friday with Matt Knight Madness

The Oregon football team has a bye week this week — or "improvement week," as Chip Kelly calls it — which means it's the perfect time to start thinking Duck hoops.

Matt Knight Madness, Oregon's version of college basketball's first day of practice, takes place after the No. 5 Oregon volleyball team plays Washington State at 6 p.m. Friday at Matthew Knight Arena. (Oregon plays No. 2 Washington, the nation's last unbeaten volleyball team, at 7 p.m. Saturday at Matt Knight Arena.)

The event provides fans and students with the first glimpse of the men's and women's basketball teams in a fun, festive event.

Activities include a free T-shirt giveaway, raffles for custom Pit Crew Air Jordans and jackets, and autographed basketballs from both teams. All fans and students who attend the volleyball game will receive raffle tickets and are eligible to win prizes.

Student admission to the volleyball match is free to all students with university ID. General admission tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for kids 12 and younger. Both the volleyball match and Matt Knight Madness will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
